Whoa! (Meanderings Opinion)
Posted on 11. Mar, 2010 by John McCulley in Politics
Dude, ok so I read the “Meanderings” post, and here’s my first opinion piece for the blog. Are you ready?!
Thomas Jefferson also wrote, “I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man.”
Now that I’ve said that, to quote Jefferson, and then called the Republicans “insane” and “bible-clutchers that ignore the suffering of others” is a little odd because Jefferson was a Republican. In that time, the party was the Democratic-Replubicans, and they were battling the Federalists. Now, the Republicans of that time fought the same things they do today: No strong, centralized Government, and more rights for States. To quote Thomas Jefferson in a deliberate attack on the Republicans is way off-kilter, and indeed a mistake.
To say that “your” party, the Democrats (congratulations on ownership by the way) has simply “lost their way” is absurd, and frankly irresponsible. Especially with so many Republicans in “insane asylums”. I mean, who’s running the country right now? Republicans are all locked up and the Democrats are looking for a frickin’ compass.
You want a new party, “I think we need a new party, a true progressive party. A party that CLEARLY stands for gay rights, universal health care, the legalization of marijuana, and the reduction of military spending.“
Didn’t Nader try to do this already? How’d that turn out……
The truth of the matter, sir, is that a party cannot stand for a single issue, because that is no different than standing for a religion. Call Republicans “bible-clutchers”, but the statistics prove otherwise. If you don’t believe me, check out this statistic:
If you look at the info provided above, it would seem that people with religion vote more on the issues than people without. Because we are split nearly down the middle. Most of the vote is split more based on race than religion. And by the way, can you tell me the religion of every Republican in politics? I’m sure you can’t, which also makes your statement very uninformed.
I’m all in favor of homosexuals receiving the same rights as heterosexuals to include not being barred from the institution of marriage. But, if an entire party was for gay rights, what kind of “clutchers” would you call them? I mean, Republicans are clutching bibles, and Democrats are clutching who knows what, what would the “Party for the liberalization of gays, marijuana, health care, and military spending” clutch?
My answer to you, is faith.
And that’s what we’re all clutching. Republicans, democrats, libertarians,…. Americans, sir. We are clutching faith in the people WE appointed. Now, a message to you Republican, if you say, “I did not appoint Obama,” you sir, are wrong. The inability of a nation to decide between right and wrong on simple issues, and the inability of the Republican party to appoint a Vice Presidential candidate who had a brain, is why Obama is in office. Obama is a fine man, and he has some pure values. I question several of his issues, but who hasn’t?
So in conclusion, I say to your short, sloppy post, “Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable – a most sacred right – a right, which we hope and believe, is to liberate the world.”
That quote is from Abraham Lincoln, another Republican.
