Meanderings

Thomas Jefferson said “The best principles of our republic secure to all its citizens a perfect equality of rights.”

Over 200 years ago these words were spoken, and I feel we have yet to live up to this principle. It saddens me greatly to see the great divisions in our country when it comes to establishing and securing this equality that Jefferson spoke of so long ago when our great country was so very young. I become infuriated when I see the apathy that pervades throughout our society.

Over the past few decades, my party – The Democrats – has moved slowly to the left and the Republicans have moved into an insane asylum. The party of free love and peace has become the party of corporate kickbacks and indifference. My choice when I go to the poles is between a bumbling party that has lost its way and a party that clutches their bibles and ignores the suffering of others. I think we need a new party, a true progressive party. A party that CLEARLY stands for gay rights, universal health care, the legalization of marijuana, and the reduction of military spending.

I know some of you will think me a pinko commie or a socialist swine, but I really do not care. The suffering and discrimination of minorities by the majority has to end. We must free ourselves of these vile prejudices and look forward to the future. A future where our country lives up to the ideals on which we were founded.

Just a late evening rant from your friendly neighborhood liberal. ;-P
